The team at American Higher Education, Inc. (AHEd), has years of experience at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and other prominent schools of higher learning.  We capitalize on our expertise in higher education and international entrepreneurship.  We have broad and deep people-networks that we have developed over many years of building international educational programs and international business development.

Management Team

The Hon Joseph A. Califano, Jr., Chairman of the Board is currently the President of the Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. Mr. Califano served as Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare under President Carter from 1977-1979. From 1965 to 1969, Mr. Califano served as President Johnson's chief domestic policy advisor.  He remains an expert on the health system in the US .

Dr. Leonard Hausman, Vice Chairman and Chief Academic Officer created and directed research centers at MIT, Harvard University, and Brandeis University between 1970 and 1998. His innovative ideas and entrepreneurship were at the core of four policy research programs. He single-handedly raised all the financing for these centers, as well. He founded and directed the largest academic center, worldwide, with the Institute for Social and Economic Policy in the Middle East at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.   There, he also taught economics and social protection policy. From 1988 to 1992, Leonard founded and directed the East Asia Management Center at the Sloan School of Management at MIT, a program focusing on economic matters in China and other East Asian countries. From 1970 to 1988, he was Associate Professor of Economics at Brandeis University in Boston, where he created two research centers and a masters program in the management of human services.

Mr. Za-Woong Koo, President and CEO is a former investment banker and a venture adviser and consultant to start-up companies.  Most recently he was engaged to restructure an Internet education technology company, and served as a principal in an Internet based localized shopping network.  For over 16 years, as Managing Partner of Cambridge Capital Partners and as Managing Director of BT Wolfensohn, working with The Hon. James D. Wolfesohn and The Hon Paul A. Volcker, he has advised clients on investments, M&A, restructuring, joint ventures and strategic alliances.  Mr. Koo holds an AB, SM, and MBA from Harvard. 

Ms. Genet Jeanjean, VP University Programs, Director AHEd Communications Institute Ms. Jeanjean holds a a B.A. in European Studies from Mount Holyoke College, M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education as well as an M.A. from Tufts University where she studied second language acquisition and adult learning.  She has worked extensively on managing international learning programs.  She has owned and operated two separate companies in the U.S. and Europe, both specializing in business English programs for managers and executives.  She has worked with corporations and universities around the world, helping them to identify learning needs, design programs and assessments, and deliver them around the world.

Mr. Nagesh Singh, VP India & South Asia  holds a computer science and engineering degree from Mangalore University, India . Over the years he has successfully developed businesses in areas as diverse as IT, telecommunications, and interactive distance learning. He has worked in a variety of capacities with companies like Fujitsu ICIM, HCL Comnet, Hughes Escorts Communications and Gilat Satellite Networks India. He was the founder of Hughes' DirecWay Global Education business that makes programs from top Indian business schools available to students across India over a satellite based network.

Dr. Salwan Yousif, VP Middle East/Central Asia/Africa  Dr. Yousif is Chairman and CEO of Inter Group, which is a trading company based in Dubai, UAE. Prior to that, Dr. Yousif was the Assistant Chairman and General Manager of Al Naboodah Group, consisting of 18 different companies employing more than 8,000 employees. Salwan holds a PhD in Physical Education.

Mr. S. C. Chak, VP Asia Pacific Mr. Chak has thirty years of corporate experience in senior management, and has worked for several publicly listed groups in Singapore . He was CEO of a large shipping company, as well as regional logistics companies. He co-founded a .com maritime company, which was able to attract significant funding. He has broad management experience in varied Asian contexts and a wide regional network of business connections.

Mr. Xiaozhong Zhou, President and CEO, AHEd-China President of HK-based South-Way World Wide, and Managing Director of First Asia Consulting. Mr. Zhou was senior China advisor for Standard Chartered Bank, New China HK Group, Horizon Capital, CCA International, and Samsung Life. He has 15 years of research experience at Brandeis and MIT and directs the Beijing based FLJ Research Center for Western Ideas.

Mr. D.J. Han, VP of Korea and North Asia  is an experienced venture specialist with extensive experience in starting and running venture companies in industries as diverse as SI, e-commerce, and live entertainment. Most recently, He was involved in developing and running a college prep consulting and English education business. Motivated by his entrepreneurial zeal and strong vision, he strives on the challenges of making concepts into reality by coming up with creative solutions and executable plans, creating new markets, and building organizations optimized to implement solutions. He managed all facets of company development and organization in all of his previous venture involvement. As Director of Operation for a live entertainment company, he spearheaded the development of musical market in Korea and subsequently played an instrumental role in developing the market for high-budget large–scale events. He also served as Managing Director of a technology venture that was a subsidiary of the largest network integrator in Korea, and CEO and President of a localized e-commerce venture in San Jose. He holds BA in Economics and Mathematics from Williams College.

Dr. Jean Steel, Director of Nursing is Professor Emeritus of Advanced Practice Nursing and former Director of the Center for International Health Education at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Massachusetts. Jean has published articles and taught extensively in areas of nursing management and all areas of clinical practice in many parts of the world.

Board of Advisors

The Hon., Mr. Chong-Ha Yoo, Strategic Adviser in Asia, Chairman and CEO of AHEd-Korea  Mr. Yoo is on the faculty of the Graduate School of International Studies at Sogang University in Seoul. He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in South Korea in 1997-1998. Prior to that, he was the chief national security adviser to the President of South Korea. 

Professor Zvi Bodie, Academic Consultant, Finance Zvi is Professor of Finance, Boston University School of Management. He has published widely on a variety of financial topics. His textbook "Investments" is the top selling text in the MBA market. With Nobel Laureate Robert Merton of Harvard Business School, Zvi has co-authored a new text on "Finance". He has consulted on financial issues for U.S. Department of Labor, foreign governments, Bankers Trust Co., and J.P. Morgan. He has also served on the faculties of the Harvard Business School and at MIT.

Dr. William Terry, Medical Education Consultant Bill has twenty years of research experience; ten years of experience in various executive positions with profit and loss responsibility in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries; and ten years of experience in developing and managing technology transfer programs at the hospitals affiliated with Partners HealthCare, including the Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital. At Partners, he is Vice President.

Dr. Bruce Pastor, Medical Education Consultant is a senior physician at Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he also is a member of the Board of Trustees. For the past 27 years, he has been a member of the clinical faculty of Harvard Medical School where he has trained many undergraduate and postgraduate students. Since 1994, he has played an active role in helping upgrade medical education and care in the former Soviet Union
